Candlewood Lake

I found the picture below  in my grandfather’s archives.  He was a professional photographer and film maker who got his start in WWII and thought no one knows when the shot was taken, a good guess is that you are looking at Candlewood lake during the 70’s.

The Candlewood Lake Club members can enjoy the lake in a variety of ways.  A sandy beach with adirondack chairs, umbrellas, a roped off swimming area, and two floating docks (one with a slide), are  located just across from the club house.  Lifeguards are on staff during specific hours in the summer.  A kayak rack is available, as well as boat slips.

Candlewood lake is located within the boundaries of the towns of Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford and Sherman.  Candlewood is by far the largest lake in Connecticut with over 5,000 acres of water to navigate, Islands, and coves to explore; it is quite possibly the most beautiful lake in CT.  It is a popular destination as it is within a 90 minute drive from Manhattan.  It is not uncommon for lakefront owners to take mondays and fridays off and spend extended summer weekends at the lake.  It is close enough that some people fall to the temptation of commuting to and from the lake.  Having such a source of wealth so close helps property values retain and hold well.  Unlike other destinations such as Lake George, the summer temperatures on this lake make it very comfortable to swim in

We have visited virtually every listing so we can answer your questions. Currently, the price range is about $399-$600,000 for a basic cottage style home, about $700-$900,000 for a smaller but very nice waterfront and then $1-2 million for the really nice waterfronts with a  few over $3 million. If you should decide you want to take a look by water, we can arrange for a lakeside tour.

Candlewood Photo Tour.  This link is full of photographs of the lake.  Various communities, seasons, and aerials, can be found that help to give you a sense of the lake.  Candlewood’s beauty is best appreciated in person, but this is a very nice second best:  http://tours.tourfactory.com/tours/tour.asp?t=170940
